who is Saint Ralph?

Saint Ralph is a movie that was sent to me by a friend. it is heartwarming and inspirational. Ralph Walker is a 14 year old boy from Canada living in the 1950's. he goes to an all boys Catholic school where he is mentored by a former Olympian. his mother is dying in the hospital and he is trying to live on his own by pretending to have grandparents, which along with his father have all passed away. some trouble lands him on the cross country team as a sort of punishment. in his quest for a miracle which he believes will set his mother free from her coma, he sets out to win the 53'rd Boston Marathon.

after having the Father of the Catholic school which he attends forbid him from running the race, and most of the town ridicule him for his attempt, he ends up taking second place by just a nose making it the closest finish in the history of the Boston Marathon at that time. he returned home a champion in the eyes of his disbelieving classmates.

i found myself more then a little choked up at this young boys attempt and all that he did to prepare himself for the race. what he did first was he believed he would win.

i will be going out early in the morning for a little tune up run before my marathon on Saturday. i have no time goals for this race. it is the distance that i am after at this time in my training. some other things that i have been working on are Pilate's twice a week. i have cut out soda almost completely and have been replacing it with Emer'gen-C. chocolate has been a hard one. i have a container with almonds, walnuts, sunflower and pumpkin seeds, raisins and chocolate chips (that would be milk chocolate, the only real chocolate!) and that helps curb my appetite
that might other wise send me on a hand to mouth search for M&M's. gluten free organic Fig Newtons have replaced cookies. i have been doing well with avoiding fast food. Jack in the Box is my all time fav. i have opted for Amy's organics instead. turkey slices on a rye crisp with a piece of cheese works well for me also. i also make killer smoothies!!! one big thing that i am lacking... those veggies. i will work on that. oh, and one more thing. no eating after 7:00 PM and the latest. Oprah says.

today was a Pilate's day. no running. Yesterday i went out for an hour on the beautiful bridle trails at my friends Shawna's house. the day was great, the run not so hot. there are gonna be days like that, no?

My friend I see a lot of Saint Ralph in you, you have a goal and you try even if things arent going to plan you get out there and try no matter what.

Saint Ralph was a totally awesome movie! I loved it! And say what you want about that diluted chocolate stuff you like, the dark stuff rules and you know it!
