making tracks on Cowles Mountain

this is the view from the top of Pyles Peak. Cowles Mountain is the highest spot within the city limits of San Diego. it reaches 1,592 feet and getting to the top will take about 25 switchbacks and plenty of rocks on a single track trail. this climb is made in only 1.5 miles. going down the back side to the trail head is about another two miles of very steep fire roads with some easy running in the middle. we did a little more than 20 miles with 8 ascents and 8 descents total. 6 hours and 40 minutes.

there are many rocky sections on the front side of this hill. my new Golite Trail Flys held up very well. i felt secure with them on and i could tell a huge difference especially when climbing. i added an extra insole and tied some knots toward the top because the speed laces kept re-adjusting themselves. that seemed to fix any problems and i loved these shoes on the trail!

who ever did not like my blue shoes....
see they are not so blue anymore.
and i love them!
