Last Saturday I went on an awesome training run! I ran from Vincent Gap to Islip which are miles 13 through 26 of the AC course.
First we climbed 2,800 feet with 41 switchbacks to bag the peak of Mt. Baden Powell which is the second highest peak in the San Gabriel's with the elevation of 9,399.
Here is a picture of the famous Wally Waldron Tree.
Bagging the peak!
It was a real treat to meet up with this trail legend and goddess Pat DeVita. She was so kind to have watermelon and Gatorade waiting for us at her car but i did not think that there would be enough so we passed. that was a mistake. It is always such a pleasure to see Pat on the trails and she is at many of the races that i am at.
Here is a view with some fire damage.
This part of the AC course is run on the famous PCT
Ah, this pictures holds so many memories for me. I have taken many pictures of my friends running down this portion of the AC course coming into the Islip Aid Station. This was the first time that I got to see it the very way that they have, running down.
There is a fresh water spring and here is George filling up his water bottle
with fresh spring water.

Taking a break at the spring.
Almost to the top for a second time. Absolutely gorgeous! What a great training day! Total elevation gain and loss, 11,200 feet. Next up, I am going to meet Whitney! Bye, LC

Get even more acquainted with Baden Powell...
Mount Baden-Powell is a peak in the San Gabriel Mountains of California named for the famous English Lord Robert Baden-Powell, founder of the World Scouting Movement. Mount Baden Powell was officially recognized by the USGS at a dedication ceremony in 1931.

My dear Burnham,
I have only to-day received on my return from Australia and South Africa the details of the great honour done to me in America in the dedication of the mountain to bear my name in California. I feel overwhelmed by it and more especially by your beautiful address with its far too flattering account of me. It makes me feel that I ought to buck up and nearly try to deserve the high status you have accorded to me.
More especially I feel this because I realise that it is not the empty praise of a tactful orator, but the actual opinion of one who knows me personally and for this I valued it all the more and feel the more deeply grateful to you for your very generous and kindly appreciation.
Are we never to see you here? Do come again, and soon.
Yours sincerely,
Baden-Powell
