Mt. Disappointment is one of my all time favorite races. This year I decided to run the 50 mile race, something that was added last year. I am really glad that I did because I had one of the most enjoyable days on the trail in a long time. I was able to hang out with friends like George, Kirk Fortini, Vicki, Manny, Mark and a whole group that I was able to enjoy at one time or another during the last 25 miles. The morning started well for me. I only had about three bad miles coming into mile 26. Once I was on my way, the second half went surprisingly well.
(ooops) When running up at Mt. Wilson there are many steep climbs. This is the same area which the Angeles Crest 100 runs through. We even hit some of the same trails during the later miles of the race. At this race it has been said that you are either running down hill or you are climbing.
The sun is going down just before getting to Westfork aid station where my friend Gabor was the aid station captain. This is where I met Gabor four years ago. I also met four years ago Gary Hilliard who is the race director and he puts on one of the best races that I have ever run. His heart and soul goes into making this race a great and safe experience for all involved. Thank you to all the volunteers and to Gary and Pam for the many hours they spent in making this one very enjoyable day.
