My Skies are Clear Today...Looking back 10 years

For many, January 10 is just that... January 10. But for me it is bigger then my birthtday, Christmas or any other day for that matter. Today, January 10 marks the 10 year anniversary of the accident. It happened on the 15 freeway just south of Fallbrook. Four of the six in our family were in the van and gratefully everyone survived. I was in the passenger seat and took out two trees on the way down. I spent many weeks in the hospital and some time after in rehab learning how to do the simplest things like taking a shower, learning how to eat again and going down stairs.

It happened at 4 in the afternoon on a rainy Saturday. After being life flighted to Palamar, family and friends arrived. I was not expected to live through the weekend. Some walked out of my room in disbelief because i was not recognisable.

One year after the accident I started to run. Running has given me so much. In a way running has been a best friend. And I have made many of my friends that I have today through running.

I would like to share these words with you. I am happy to be alive...

No Sign Of It
Natalie Grant

up and down again
but this time it's different
it took some waiting to straighten
out the bend
In and out of luck
yeah at times it was difficult
I got a new life baby, It takes some getting used to but...

No sign of any rain
My skies are clear today
I keep bracing for that hit
But there's not sign of it
No obstacles in sight
My skies are clear tonight
I keep thinking I might see that cloud arrive
Oh but there's no sign of it
No sign of it

thank you for letting me share. LC

I wasn't aware that your accident was that horrific. I'm certain that your story could be an inspiration to many others. I know that I've been inspired. Have you ever considered writing a book?

It's been 4+ years since we hooked up Leigh, you and me. And it's been awesome!! I'd really hate to think about the void in my life that I wouldn't even know about had you not come through that accident and started running! Running. Look at all the trouble it's caused... ;-) Your Partner and you have been an incredible resource and invaluable friends to me over the years. Thanks Leigh!

Leigh,

You are a miracle on two legs. To have survived something so brutal and come so closed to dying, then fighting your way back to where you are today is an achievement I don't even have words for. You are an amazing woman. A great athlete and inspiration. Good luck. I assume you are running with the Buffaloes this weekend. Have fun. I love that location. I look forward to seeing you soon for a run or race.

Leigh,
Sorry I did not get back to you yesterday, but please know I was thinking of you. How i remember that day, and everything you went through for the next couple of months (hard stuff) but look at you now, you are amazing and such an inspiration. I am so happy that you are here and that you are my friend. You and your family are truly wonderful people and I feel very lucky to know such great people. Have a great weekend doing your 50 miler, wow, just think you are here and able to do a 50 miler...Life is a wonderful.
