it went something like this.... "yeah, I'll sign up to run AC just as soon as you do, Randy" Randy relpys with a laugh and tells me that he already had signed up to run. well that was all my friend George needed and the check was in the mail. he signed me up too. he loves to see me suffer.
i was never very excited about running AC. i can blame that on my friend Robert Baird. after reading his race report about 3 years ago i swore that this would be a race that i would never run. too hard is what i thought. too brutal. well here i am planning to tow the line this Saturday with all the other crazy people and you know what, i am actually looking farward to the whole thing.
the importance of a pacer? i need one! i lost my first pacer due to work scheduling. my second pacer i lost to his best friend who's health is failing and he and his wife have been spending their weekends with him. that is the kind of man my friend Beanie Pat is.
so here i am at the 11 hour with no pacer or crew heading into a race that i swore that i would never attempt. well my family pulled through and agreed to be my crew and i am ecstatic to have them there for me!!!! and just two days ago my two very good friends agreed to be my pacers. Jeff and Robert will get me throught the night and to the finish line. i can not tell you how greatful i feel to have my family be there with me and also Jeff and Robert. Cate will aslo be at the finish and my friend Shawna may come also. that is lots of insetive to get me there.
i thought that after just completing 100 miles in the Tetons less then two weeks ago that my urge to finish 100 miles this year would be quenched and i could let this one silently slide by. but i can't! i am just too excited and i feel too good. i have to try. and i will be running these miles for John M. Grazioso.
i feel so gratefull to be able to run and feel the discomfort that i am willing to endure. i am alive and how good it is. John M. Grazioso lost his life along with his brother Tim 7 years ago on this very day, September 11. they were at work in the World Trade Center. They both worked for Canter Fitzgerald. i have worn John's name on my wrist ever since.
John and Tim (i will never forget) and to Pat's friend... this race is for you!
