turning 3 at Mt. D

crossing on the cable at Mt. Disappointment

i had a birthday last saturday. yes, i turned three years old as an ultra runner. my first attempt at an ultra was at my good friend John Bozung's race, Squaw Peak which i was unable to finish on account that i got lost. so i tried again at Mt. Disappointment. let me tell you, that is a humdinger of a race and i love it and plan to run it every year. this was year three for me.

my goal this year was to start out really slow and see how many people i could catch as time went by. it worked like a charm and i finished feeling very good and happy. it was a wonderful day with so many friends. three years ago i knew two people, this year it was like a reunion with so many friends that i have met on the trails. Gary puts on one of the best races and it just gets better every year. thank you Gary!

on my way to the finish line ,
but not before stopping for a quick hug from my friend Suzy!
she took my picture
