things can only get better

Things Can Only Get Better
Howard Jones

We're not scared to lose it all
Security throw through the wall
Future dreams we have to realize
A thousand sceptic hands
Wont keep us from the things we plan
Unless were clinging to the things we prize

And do you feel scared - I do
But I wont stop and falter
And if we threw it all away
Things can only get better

Treating today as though it was
The last, the final show
Get to sixty(miles) and feel no regret
It may take a little time
A lonely path, an uphill climb
Success or failure will not alter it

And do you feel scared - I do
But I wont stop and falter
And if we threw it all away
Things can only get better

on my run today i went to Peters Canyon with my tire. i pulled for an hour and a half up and down the hills. what i noticed first was the feeling that i just wanted to go, like a dog on a leash being held back. then i noticed that i was running up many of the hills with my tire in tow where only a short time ago i would have been walking and out of breath... and that was without the tire. the final thing that i noticed was the fact that when given the choice to head back to my car, i happily made a loop around the lake. i never once was bored or wanted to give up. leaving my obstacles behind me, i feel as if i have broken free of the chains that have held me bound for over a year now. i am feeling more and more like i am back to the runner that i once knew.

on one of my final hills i came upon a tortoise. where is the camera when you need it? this guy was the size of a very large grapefruit. i of course took this as a good omen. did you know that they are good luck?

a friend of mine said that she was 100% confident in her ability to finish WS. i decided at that moment that i wanted to feel 100% confident too. that is the direction that i am moving! i am not just running the miles but am making the miles count.

i saw a picture once on Lisa Bliss' blog of her and Dave Bursler crossing No Hands Bridge in the early morning hours as she approached her finish. I think back upon that image often.

things can only get better, and they are! all trails lead to Auburn.
